Sindh Minister Apologises to YouTuber Rajab Butt After Karachi City Court Incident
KARACHI: The situation involving YouTuber Rajab Butt at the Karachi City Courts has escalated into a major legal and political controversy. Following a violent assault inside the court premises, the Sindh government has stepped in, with the Zia Lanjar publicly expressing regret and condemning the actions of the lawyers involved.
What Happened at Karachi City Courts
On December 29, Rajab Butt appeared before the Sessions Court for a bail hearing related to a blasphemy-linked case. During the proceedings, a group of lawyers allegedly attacked him inside the court premises. Viral videos showed Butt with torn clothes and visible injuries, sparking nationwide outrage.
The lawyers claimed the altercation was linked to a previous vlog in which Butt allegedly used inappropriate language against the legal community. However, Butt’s legal team described the incident as a life-threatening assault rather than an attempt at reconciliation or apology.
FIR Registered Against Lawyers
Following the incident, an FIR was registered against more than a dozen lawyers, including Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi and Advocate Abdul Fatah. Charges include rioting, criminal intimidation, assault, and theft, as Butt’s lawyers allege that Rs300,000 in cash was snatched during the chaos.
Sindh Home Minister’s Response
Reacting strongly, Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar termed the incident “unfortunate and regrettable.” He stated that it was deeply concerning for lawyers—guardians of the law—to take matters into their own hands and assured that mob justice within court premises would not be tolerated.
Court Extends Interim Bail
Despite the violence, the court extended Rajab Butt’s interim bail until January 13, 2026. Investigations into the court security lapse and the role of those involved are currently underway.
Background of the Controversy
Rajab Butt has remained in the spotlight since early 2025 after launching a perfume named “295,” which led to accusations of blasphemy. Although he issued a public apology earlier this year, legal proceedings have continued, keeping tensions high.
